My manual trunk latch is not working. Out side of being in serious need of lube, it doesn't activate the latch when depressed. I've got it to move back and forth all the way, but no sound or action.

My question is, should I bother opening up the trunk lid to try and remove the latch assembly and do some cleaning and inspection? I'd love to not have to replace the unit.

The trunk opens fine with the remote key and also with the drivers door switch, just no action back at the trunk latch on the lip of the lid.

Anu help would be appreciated.

It is most likely a broken latch, but you might be able to fix it because the handle activates an electric switch to open the trunk. I'd try removing the trunk lining and spraying the inside area where the switch is located with contact cleaner. Try not to get it down into the lower part of the latch - there are plastic gears in there and you don't want to clean them of their lubrication.
