I had a power steering leak in my ML350.
The fluid in the reservoir was bad looking to begin with (dark brown, instead of the light pink/red of the fresh transmission fluid I put in).
A mechanic put some dye in there to diagnose the leak. It made it completely disgusting (a fluorescent greenish mud color).
I asked for a full flush of the system, which was reportedly performed.
As I look in the reservoir, it's still not the clear pinkish/red that I expected. It's a lighter color, but still that greenish look from the dye.
Looks like they may have not flush out the fluid in the rack and pinion part, which now mixed with the new fluid they added.
What can I do to get rid of that dye? Does it hurt to leave it there? I read somewhere that the main cause of rack and pinion failure is contamination. And that's an expensive part.
