Hey all...Two part question....A) Can I test a 1988 560SL A/C control unit in a 1991 560SEL to see if the unit on the 560SL is bad?.....and B) No issues removing the 560SL control unit per its layout, but the 560SEL still has the Becker stereo directly under the control panel and I am at a loss as to how to remove the wood panel....I've already replaced the 560SEL's console window switch as well as the shifter so I am not oblivious to delicate dissasembly....Thanks for those two issues....Trying to source a short with the 560SL...Compressor comes on but fuse blows when engaging the blower and the reverse lights and outside thermostat also fail....HELP!!!!!!

1) Remove ash tray insert
2) Remove ash tray/ligter unit 2 philips head screws
3) Remove radio
4) panel can now be removed

There are legs that run down alongside/behind of the radio attached to the control units wood.
These are easily broken if the first 3 steps are not done.
The results are a panel that just never fits correct vs. how it is supposed yo be.

A man of few words, lol....Yes, I got THAT but: "3) Remove radio
4) panel can now be removed"....What are the legs and radio anchored to and are the two units compatible before I go yanking one out to test another......My fuse #4 that controls, a/c unit, reverse lights, out/side temp gauge etc.keeps blowing and an opinion has been offered that the control unit is bad, but it'll be the third one in 2 years (if correct).....So actually, this is a r107 issue initially with the removal of the control unit from the w126 following suit.....

OK OK A few more words.

The radio is held in place with 2 metal springs. There are 2 slots on the front bottom of the radio, This is where the springs are located. You need to release the tension on the springs and the radio will slide out.

The legs are the pieces of plastic that sit behind the installed radio and are attached to the control panel, the legs help position, and keep in position the control panel.

I don't think the 2 control units are identical, call the dealer ask for the part number for both units.

Give me the two P/N's and I can look it up.

To the OP: PM me your email and I'll send you the manuals and a bunch of other handy documents.

As a general rule, you can sub out newer ACC's for an older one, but usually not in reverse. I have many ACC's if you need a spare.

The schematic is in the manuals I will send, or you can get an ACC manual yourself.
