What causes headlight rubber to perish?

 

The heat over time from the engine & then driving it with the wind deteriorating the rubber with age .
I had a spare set of headlights that I purchased years ago for my S500 , I stripped the rubbers of that and gave the rubber to Ilhan since his were completely gone on his immaculate S500 , one of those things I do for my w140 friends in need .:thumbsup:
