Hi all new to the forum and finding it very useful!

I have recently bought a CLK430 Convertible and just have a few niggling problems with the alignment of the rear windows when the roof is down.

I've read the threads and posts about resetting the front windows and have given all the seals and runners some attention with silicon lubricant to make sure there is no unnecessary friction and all run fine without any judder or the common problems of going up and down by themselves when nearly raised.

I do have a problem however with drivers side rear window raising above the height of the front window meaning that when the door is closed the front window can shut against the leading edge of the rear glass and not against the seal. I always adjust the window by sight to prevent this as I don't want to risk breaking the glass if the door gets slammed - is there is a known solution to sorting the alignment of the rear windows?

Doesn't happen with the roof up just when its down

Other than that am really enjoying the car so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hey bud. I currently have the same issue. It just happened recently while retracting the convertible top. Ive read some places that in order to get at the window, the back seats have to come out. I will look into this in the next few weeks. For the time being, I make sure not to raise too much.

Wow, I am actually fixing this right now on my 320 cabriolet.

Thi s is actually the "easiest" adjustment as far as I can tell.

You will need to remove the rear side interior panel. This is held in with a bunch of snap clips and also one screw, the screw is located underneath the mysterious little hinged plastic thing at the top of the door panel. You'll need to pry the plastic thing out, and you'll see the screw underneath. You'll also need to remove the rear seat bottom (pull hard it pops out from the front). I left the door panel attached at the rear-trunk corner, and just swiveled it inwards to access the window mechanism.

Now. There is one hole with a screw behind it right at the top of the door. A star bit will fit it. That's the adjustment. If you peel off the 12" weatherstripping piece from inside the door, you can look down into the window. From the top you'll see a black plastic / metal piece. On mine, the plastic had cracked so it wasn't stopping the window properly. Part 208-673-03-12. $16.

Yep - wow that sounds like such straightforward fix and I can guess the clip breaks when people raise the windows and keep the button pressed as they don't have any auto function - will attempt that during the week when I have the time.

As for teh car we are loving it, its going to Brittany in France for Easter and then two trips to Italy over the Alps this summer.

Thanks for the input guys!

Guys will try to get some photos for you as well. When I said literally I meant literally as in I was outside doing it - came in to see if I could get any insight on why the auto-up doesn't work. Unfortunately (or fortunately for you) in the middle of my putting the car back together I got called away on another project, so car is still disassembled. But yes I think that part is probably your issue.

You'll need a couple of good magnetic screwdrivers or magnetic parts-grabbers. Put one down from the top of the window opening and let it grab the clip before you unscrew the screw, use the other one so you capture the screw. (easy to lose that stuff forever otherwise) Pull the clip out through the top and re-insert the new one from the top as well. Don't be afraid to use some duct-tape and a string if you need to to make sure you don't lose it. The clip will settle right into a little indent in the inside metal panel and screw into place through that hole. Once I did this the adjustment was pretty easy.

Now.... since I did all that :) can somebody explain to my why auto-up doesn't work on these back windows anymore?

I just bought a 1999 CLK 320 Cab and noticed the roof on the driver's side is worn from the window. The passenger side is fine. When I shut the doors the windows I am guessing are at their full height and brush the top. I tried the reset trick thinking that when the doors were opened the windows would go down a bit, and then rise when the door was shut. Can anyone tell me what the correct way is for the windows to operate is? Thanks.

Yes, the hinged thing is the part that the wind deflector would snap into at the front. You can pry it out gently, I think there is a catch but a nice wide screwdriver should get it out. Mine did crack a tiny bit when removing, but once reassembled you would never notice unless you were looking for it.
