Try a different key of possible, see if your key is just worn. If not... you need to replace the ignition lock cylinder NOW. And I mean IMMEDIATELY. When the key will no longer turn, it will take several hours of drilling to remove the broken lock. Otherwise it takes about 10 minutes.<br>

Tip: Order a new lock cylinder from the dealer, custom keyed to your VIN number. That way the key will be the same. You'll also get a brand new Mercedes steel key. Use this steel key from now on. Often copies of the original key cause problems, because they are brass and not steel. They wear much faster and leave a little pile of shavings under the ignition. They're great as spares, but for daily use do yourself a favor and use an original Mercedes steel key...<br>

I'm going from memory here, so I might be a little off. I think you turn the key part way, and insert a paper clip (or similar stiff wire) into the hole on the lock cylinder. This holds down a spring-loaded pin. Then turn the black collar that surrounds the silver lock cylinder face CCW, it just unscrews. You may need to 'start' it with some pliers if it's stuck, then it should just spin off, and the cylinder comes out when the collar is off. It makes more sense once you see the innards. Installation is the reverse, but when the collar is tight, you may need to loosen it a partial turn to remove the key (to let the key return to the 'off' position.)<br>
