you guys play with Iphones too much, battery reset and hard reset... LOL

W140 is a tad more involved, as its modules don't "freeze" and will never require resets by consumer...

you need to get, or take the car to where they have a STAR scanner, scan codes, make a note of them, then erase them...

Many members here will jump up and claim there are 10000 shortcuts to do this, but take it from an electrical engineer that loves cheap shortcuts (me): it just doesn't work, you will be shooting in the dark, and end up spending a lot more money on parts that you don't need...

I needed the MAF it was unplugged and wouldn't run with it plugged in. Idle is smooth and better gas mileage now.

and probably smells better as well, because its no longer running rich...

When the MAF is dead, unplugging will force the car to run off of pre set table, and inject certain amount of fuel, without consideration of how much air is entering, AKA open loop mode. thus, the car runs, because you force it to ignore the wacky values the dead MAF was introducing...

There is a catch however, removing the dead MAF, AKA the absence of the MAF by itself throws a code.

Code in W140 are a tad different than other cars, as they get stored in non-volatile memory, so battery disconnection is ineffective.

depending on the code, and the component in question, some codes self erase if the problem is resolved, after certain amount of miles, some, after certain count of restarts, some, never erase until erased with a scanner...

for all of the above, I proposed a scan, its the best way to make sure all codes are gone for sure...

Niether will work, you need a real Mercedes STAR scanner...

either dealer (not recommended) or an indy...
