Thanks to the steps in the following thread, my high idle problem is fixed. Thanks to Capitalreykjavik's post, I don't get whiplash anymore from shifting out of park. I'm still a newb at the Benz game, yet found the screw technique to be fairly easy. I had already tried soldering new capacitors in the ICM, and a reman ICM, in addition to cleaning the ICV. None of that worked. I would have never known to do this w/o this forum:D

The screw will only work in the Gen II ICV's AFAIK.

RD,
Your car has the air slide valve then and is adjustable by the screw in it. OR someone rigged another type of valve in it's place.

All,

My situation was just the opposite. I wanted my idle to be 800 +/- 50 RPM in "D" becasue of my cams. I used the screw in the IVC to acheive this but in P or N the RPM's were above 1K and it drove me nuts. My next step is to make an power regulator that will regulate the voltage to the IVC so that it will stay in the 800 +/-50 range in all gear selections. This is on the "to do" list. For now I installed the original IVC and just living with the lopey idle.

Below is a pic of my modified GEN II IVC.

RD,
Yep that is the air slide valve set up, the White(originally) screw setting to the side of the air slide valve is the RPM adjuster.
T6,
Too bad the Gen I's electrical pins are in the center. If to the side then we could do the Screw fix. I do know that with the proper Gen II elbow into the Air Plenum, that Gen II ICV's will work on Gen I cars. BTDT!

Thanks Charlie. That's good info.

Need more info on ICV screw fix for idle speed

Thanks Charlie. That's good info.
Hey,

I have the 1,000 in park problem in my 86 560SEC. I've read several posts detailing the use of a screw in the plug end of the ICV to bring the idle down, but, I'm not clear as to whether the screw remains in place in the hole in the ICV and what it's effect is, or as posted elsewhere the screw is used to pull out the end of the plastic plug "1 or 2" millimeters? Anybody clear that one up?

Thanks

Oh, my ICV seems to vibrate, or hum, when you touch it, and the voltage across the pins is 4 volts.
