I discovered two relays in the trunk or boot next to the fuses. What are these relays for? Part numbers are 001 542 83 19, and 001 542 74 19. One is dated 01.03.94 and the other is 07 Mar 2001. I ask because I am wondering why one was replaced in 2001 and the other one I believe is original.

One is for the fuel pump and the other is for the heated rear window. I would hazard a guess and say the newer one is for the fuel pump. Easy way to find out start the engine and pull the relay and if the engine dies then...........:D

i know that the silver relay is the fuel pump relay. alot of people changed that. i have 2009 one but i cant remember what the other one was for. most likely your w140 had a fuel pump issue in the past if its the silver relay.

Very poorly documented in the WIS, but I think one relay might be:

K41 - relief relay cct 15 CNS (communication navigation system)
WIS is crap for the relay box F4 but check out epc:thumbsup:

I'm sure you're right . If I had seen your reply before I hit Send I wouldn't have posted my suggestion!

[And currently my 'Delete' facility has gone.... Admin is 'investigating' this.]
