Yes, that's it. Remove screw without dropping the screw or the wrench in there. Then wiggle it back and forth until it comes out, it's not easy when you can only get 2-3 fingers in there, but trust me, it does come out.

I've gotten in trouble with newbies from time to time who ask nebulous questions, and give zero info and expect answers.
How nice to have someone new post a question, and provide enough info to give a qualified
answer!
TIZ1990, when you get it out, could you post a picture of it?

I bought a sensor from autohaus or is it autohauz?? anyway, I just keep it in the glove box, but have wondered for a long time if it would actually fit.

They get 40 bucks for it, vs. like 120 at a dealer I think....
The one autohaus sells seems to be one size fits all, (bosch pn- 0261210170) but in my notes I seem to have
3 different pn's for CPS, so one size doesn't fit all I think and the part in glove box may not fit.......
I keep that and a coil pack with me at all times, + tools.
Just in case. Never had a CPS fail yet, though the dealer may have replaced it without my knowledge.

Thanks for the great pics!

Again, please post pics of the sensor, and if you could even perhaps measure the length
and get a good picture of the connector.
FYI- There's a screw and washer in there....
here's the pn's.

N000912006066- Bolt for sensor M6x15
Washer- N000125006449

Here's the pn's I have for the CPS, but don't know which is correct.

Crankshaft Position Sensor-
A0031532728
A0031532828

A0041531328- Camshaft Position Sensor (I think this is one on top of the engine)

I have detailed pictures on my phone of how to go about changing it in my 2002 c230 k coupe. I will post just as soon as I'm done typing a report for college might be a day or two but consider it done.

Any errors? Was that you that said it has a "sensor error" ?

CPS installed

Basically i just took the intake off for for elbow and hand room. Then proceeded to locate my crank position sensor. Unscrewed it from the housing. Unplugged it from the connector. switched with old one. And now replaced. It's actually not that hard just no space to work with. I managed to reach my hand down and around the intake to the CPS. and un-screw it from there. Not sure if this helps anyone but if it does your welcome.:)

Being told I need a new crankshaft position sensor for my '01 C320.
Local shop wants $500 for the repair. Last post makes it look like a fairly straightforward DIY job. Would appreciate some input asap - car at the shop now. Thanks!

Its definitely not a 500 dollar job. Just buy the part from a foreign parts dealer or offline. Should be between 50 to 90 bucks. The cps is or rather should be located right about where mine is in the photos. Back right in the engine compartment, so basically you don't have a lot of room to work with, that's the main problem. The sockets are star shaped socket, but I just ended up using a metric socket that fit close and it worked fine. Pain to get the part off easy install. Not worth 500 dollars maybe 150. But that's a little absurd.

The primary symptom of CPS failure is the engine simply shutting down with no error codes.

The CPS is basically just telling the ECM that crankshaft is actually rotating If it fails to send a signal, then the ECM assumes the engine has stopped and thus shuts off fuel and spark. It tends to fail more often due to high heat than cold.

Did computer have to be re-set after you installed the new CPS? Any issues with car starting after install??
Shouldn't be any issues after installing the CPS. The CPS is sort of what a distributor was in the old days. It sends a pulse to the ECU that it uses to determine which spark plug to light up, which injector to inject. So if there's no signal, there's not going to be any spark or fuel. What happens is that when it first starts to go, the signal is weak and it misses some signals so the engine runs really bad.

As far as running bad when cold, don't think the CPS would the culprit. What's common when the engine is cold, especially the first time you start it in the morning is dew forms on the wires and coil packs and if these have any hairline cracks from age, it can cause arcing and makes it harder to start and runs rough until it burns off. You can see it night when it's dark, but on these new cars, the light show is under some plastic covers.

My car has on three occasions just shut down when in motion, with a quick/ brief message saying battery...., could I be running a bad battery or it the CPS

I didn’t pick any codes when I run OBD

Thanks
I also had that happen to me once it said something in regards to battery/alternator visit shop etc. are they related?

Well, seems it's gotten worse now. The other three times it shut down and I could start the car immediately, now I have to wait for a while before its like fuel is not going through. Fuel pump? Alternator? cps? Would I be able to get any codes with such, coz I didnt pull any the first time I tried.

my 1997 c280 cranks but wont start, but if give a little gas it would started ,run real rough and back fires,if i take my foot off the gas it dies, but if don't give any gas it just cranks can that be the cps now if i spray starting fluid in the air intake is will started run good for 2-3 mins then dies, i think it bad gas ,do any one have any ideals

Well, I went ahead and changed the CPS. To my disappointment nothing! Checked fuel pressure, no pressure opened the pump area, found no fuel in one "compartments/tank but fuel in the other. What do I do? Hope I don’t have to replace the pump

Any ideas.
