Wow, this is exactly what I wanted to hear, almost feel like taking pictures for novice people like me to have something to work with

Ok, I searched and I searched, I know exactly what I need to get started on this, but.... dont know how to actually flush the radiator out, I've read some good how-to's (Citric Acid flush (cooling system flush) - How to do it right - Schuman Automotive /Forums), but I'm guessing they are already assuming you know how to flush these cars out, so I'm baffled.

If anyone could help me out, I'd greatly appreciate it, I've found the radiator drain petcock, but not the block mounted drain plug... does anyone know any how-to's for beginners, pictorials for dummies? :)

Thanks!
Haven't read the thread so someone might already have said this. But after you're done flushing and about to fill it all up again, do it with destilled (?) battery water. It's less corrosive than regular water.

Per the Mercedes shop procedures, you must deoil the system before you do a citric acid flush whether or not there is evidence of oil in the system. And turn the heater on to make sure you get the old coolant out of it.

Thanks, I've read that before, but it tells you how to do a citric flush, assuming that you already know how to flush your system, I dont

Im sorry but I don't understand what you need to know. Do you not know where the drain plugs are? What are you confused about?

Well, my radiator cap is on the reservoir, most cars which its directly on the radiator, so how would I introduce water with pressure into the system if I have to put it in the reservoir?

Some sites say to remove a coolant line, which one? And yes, I dont know where the drain plug on the engine block is, I'm assuming the radiator drain plug is the blue, plastic looking cap? do I need any special tools?

I believe you can get a little adapter to simulate a radiator cap on the radiator/radiator fill site... but really, you can just add coolant/water//de=oil/citric flush solution in the right amounts through the reservoir... which will then circulate through your cooling system when the car is running...

The block drain is on the left side of th block, I think, not sure on a 617. The rad drain is the blue plug on the bottom of the rad.

Just add all the fluid and citric adic to the tank on the fender, I'm pretty sure it will get in the system, it has a hose on the bottom of it.
