hey guys....my check engine light has been going on and off lately and i realized its because when I'm filling up...gasoline is leaking down (dripping about 2-3 inches left of the rear passenger side tire)....it doesnt seem to leak as im driving, idle or while the car is parked.........

anyone know what this could be? please help ASAP....thanks

hey man, seems to me the leak is between the point where gas enters to go down into the tank and the tank itself. Clearly once it's in there it's in there since it's not leaking at any other time...I'd have a mechanic check it out...maybe you hit another bad pothole or something. :(

I mean I'm not sure how the tank is set up and how far down the gas pours, but it looks like you have a leak between point A and point B, B being where the tank itself starts.

ya man..it must be some type of fuel line between where the gas is entered and gas tank.......no idea how it happened...i was parked overnite up at mountain creek one night..no probs no potholes or nuthin previously....next mornin ..check engine light was on and i realized why about 20 min later when i was filling up up there...

System is pressurized, if it's leaking it might be one or more of at least 4 hoses. there is also a vent hose from filler to tank so it won't air lock. Might be as simple as loose clamp. Doesn't seem to expensive, but might be PIA to get at. I'm jacking mine up in the morning, I let you know what it might be.

Couldn't wait for the morning, it appears that after the metal filler is a rubber hose that is clamped to filler, three inches further away from the filler is another clamp ,the short hose between the filler and the main tank line(which is plastic) seem to act as a flex joint. If you take off the fender liner, you should be able to fix the leak. You have to remove rear wheel, then take off 5 plastic nuts the last one is right next to the jack pad.

I tried to pry the inner liner (inside trunk)out a bit but didn't see crap. The way it looks the trunk liner is harder to remove than the fender liner. In front of the tire is the fuel filter and pumps and the gas tank. Not sure what year your is , mine is a 00. Tool wise you'll need a lug wrench , pair of pliers and a screwdriver. pretty simple(provided thats where the leak is)

Doubt whether they changed anything in the fuel inlet system. Just looked at my ole ladys 95 C220, exactly the same as ours(iguess if it works don't screw with it is a Benz motto).. You should see the stained area from where it's leaking easy.

No, sorry no flicks, even if I could take a digital, I don't have a clue how to send it, sorry.
On the other hand I downloaded a parts list somebody was kind enough to put on either this site or the other MB site and I can email you a copy if you like, fuel system is on page 951. It shows a expansion tank before the gas tank, up near the filler but my guess is it's also located on exterior. It really seems to be a simple repair. m

Sent it. If for some reason this didn't work let me know M
hey i didnt get the email... try deyainrdy4ds@yahoo.com ...

im going to put about a gallon into one of the portable fuel tanks and then jack up the car and remove the rear passenger side tire ...pour the gas in and try to see where its leaking from..ill take pics/videos too

anyone think this could have occured from my car being low and rubbing on certain bumps? possibly pushing the fender liner up and into the fuel line or somethin?

so it turns out that the leak is indeed from the drop...everytime my car rubbed over a bad bump or somethin it was tearin thru the wheelwell and got thru it and eventually to the rubber clamp or whatever that the gas line feeds thru...i just jacked the car and saw it right away..heres a couple pics and videos....anyone know how much that one part would cost and should i do it myself or stealer?

Oh wow....that's not good at all (obviously). Sorry to see that. I'm not sure what you do to fix that other than replace with all new parts.
replace parts ya ..but itll probably happen all over again...

preventive measures...no passengers..esp in the back! lol

buttt i could also get tires that arent AS wide...im on 18x10 in the back and if i get the camber adjusted so the tire isnt as crooked and facing toward that top area where it scrapes, then itll probably prevent it from happening too...or not as much at least...

sent to both(Ithink). On the bad news side, Black plastic part you wore thru is part of the frickin tank!! Benz calls for 6.5 hrs to replace, and the price is around 600-700 $ Three ways of doing it A; drop tank and replace B: drop tank have old one plastic welded C: Pull fender liner get the gas tank repair shit ,that is like the muffler tape hope for the best. or maybe get a peice of hose a little larger than the dia of plastic gas tank filler pipe shmear filler neck with RTV wrap with hose and clamp the crap out of it and hope for best. Last method a little polish but by far cheapest. Part # for fuel tank is 202 470 80 01 and tank only fits 98-99

Looked at pic again that can be plastic welded easy( plastic welding is sorta like a hot glue gun) Body shop by you can do it in under 5 min. Question is will they do it without jerking the tank? Sorry about the prob M
