Hi, my 99 e320 has been in need of a new catalytic converter on the drivers side or possibly both sides for quite some time now! Im going absolutely nuts, its starting to sound like a old diesel MBZ. Took it to dealership right before starmark warranty expired and was told it was covered and would be replaced.. six hours later got a phonecall from them saying sorry we changed the cat but unfortunately its actually not covered under warranty after all so u owe us $1100 to pickup your car! WTF? After arguing with the service manager for about an hour I finally told them to put my old cat back on... they shouldve checked first to be sure it was indeed covered before obligating me to take a day off work so i could take it in all for nothing! There mistake not mine yet they were'nt even willing to give me a discount or anything! STAY AWAY FROM SMYTHE EUROPEAN SAN JOSE, CA... THEY ARE TRULY BASTARDS! BESHOFF MOTOR CARS IS DEFINATELY THE PLACE TO SERVICE YOUR CAR IN THE SOUTHBAY AREA!! Went in 8 days before Starmark warranty expired for a tranny issue and they replaced the whole Transmission for me with no complaint! Anyhow if anyone has any tips/pointers for using a universal weld in type catalytic converter and /or any W210 used cats for sale would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Did mine this week, all four

For what its worth, both my indy and stealership babbled something about aftermarket cats setting efficiency codes sometimes when installed and the indy did not reccommend them. I needed to get mine back up and running quickly.

For my 99 E320, cat assemblies p/n 210-49-93-47 listed for $448 and 210-490-93-47 lists for $575. My total out the door was $824 with the two gaskets for OEM for all four cats. The only consolation was that the dealership said these have come way down in price.

Oh joy...

Jeff
