Does anyone have any ideas on this, to mod a set of black w210 projector H7 lamps to fit a W208 clk430 ?

Any reasons why it would be impossible, or undo-able ???

Any obvious problems that one wants to point out.

Would like some of us to hash this around so as to get an idea re. the possiblilty of this.

Hmmm ???

PS. Please, need not hear about the set that is out, and the set that is coming out. Neither is black, and they are grossly (GROSSLY) overpriced, and there are plenty of other topics for yakking about them. Let's stay with the mod idea, see if we can come up with something. Might be worth $200 to take a shot at it. Need some opinion re. possiblity ? ...how to ? ...etc.

Well firstly, you'll have to alter your hood and your fenders to accomodate the larger housing........Already overpriced imho cutting through steel with no real idea of the outcome. You seem to be hell-bent on these black projectors. Do what I did except when you pop open the cans, paint them (or have them painted) black.

I think its is smaller that the pre-facelift.

Hey Thrillkill do you remember me at hid retro forum? I had the Black W202 retro with X5 projector.

I can't see my self doing another project like that again that was alot time spent.

crsh,
do you have pictures of that mod ?
Can you give an idea of some of the probs you had on that job ?
Kindly impart some info re. your hands on experience with the project.

PS. I'll bet the reason you were reluctant to post re. a mod on this is because no matter how serious your query, the internet is brim full of fools with pointless smarta_s remarks. It's unavoidable. This is where they live. Maybe that won't happen this time. Give it a try.

Hey, I do! How are you?
It is alot of work but the end result is worth it.

Pancho, the conversion with Eclass lights HAS been done by a guy named clk_amg on the other board and like I said, he had to grind his hood and his fenders to accomodate and the end result was less than appealing to put it lightly.

Hey Pancho,

I've been playing around with the idea of doing this also because the lights available to us are not very appealing to me at all.

I've been trying to reach this guy called VIPCLK on Mbforums about how he did it but he still hasn't gotten back to me since my phone number changed. His looks clean and I can tell that he did no grinding and cutting to his hood or fenders or bumper. He had called me and left a voicemail before I changed my phone number but it was erased when I switched it.

Here's the link:
here is some pics of the VIP clk - MBWorld.org Forums

Would it be possible to buy the w210 projectors and the cheese grater style clk projectors and just exchange the interior parts of the housing?
I think that is what VIPCLK did...but he did it with his stock lights. He just kept his stock housing and replaced the interior parts. I don't have the balls to do it so I was going to have this customizing shop near by do it since I haven't been able to reach VIPCLK.

Hi Pancho, Sorry all the pictures i had when modding my headlight is all gone when i sold my car.

Modding our headlight is not a problem if you have alot of time and money on your hands. I found that the hardest part of making my projector is when i was grinding my glass headlight to make it clear. When i did this mod i was the only w202 that had a projector then after several month the projectors for 202 came out.

In regards CLK MAN about taking the parts off the w210 projectors and swapping it to your headlight. Probably the easiest way except the lens on the w210 projector is half an inch bigger/wider that the ones we have.

judging by the work it self

$250 for a used w208 headlight for the conversion
$200 for w210 projectors

obviously if your taking the projectors apart you have to baked it the oven to take them apart and your are going to risk damaging the lights unless you prior experience the cost might go up.

heres the only picture i have now before i sold the w202

I would leave the tin on the car alone, and mod the plastic housing/surround/etc on the lights. The idea being to get the lights to fit the car. If I end up trashing a $200 set of after market lights, then I have maxed my loss at $200, and my car is not bothered. And if I can figure it out, I'll make an instructional and mayby us clk guys won't have to be left out in the cold when it comes to lighting options.

What I would like is some ideas on the possiblity of modding a set of light to fit a w208. I can cut and reshape the plastic housing with a simple fibleglass kit. I've done other plastic repairs with fiberglass. It's strong, and highly workable. The light housings are not a part that is under stress, they just need to fit and sit. The only problem that would make it clearly undo-able is if the lights where the glass part is actually to big to fit into the W208 hood cut-outs. So, am looking for some readily available aftermarket $200 set of black lights that are not too big, that have plastic housings or surrounds, that I might be able to mod and make fit--you know, get the angles right, get the fit right, etc.

Again, I don't know if this is possile, but, never having had these lights in my hand, these in the link below look like a good bet. These are at $173 for both sides. If the little one is not oriented to the big one re. the clk configuration, then, I imagine they each have their own housing unit that has been wed togther, so, just cut them apart, reconfigure, shape a union with fiberglass resin and matting, and then that prob is taken care off. The cavity under the clk hood seems adequately deep in the case where the 210 ligths housings are deeper than the clk lights.

$173 black years 00-02 E Class W210 lights:
eBay Motors: 00-02 MERCEDES BENZ E-CLASS W210 PROJECTOR HEADLIGHTS (item 110101245368 end time Mar-15-07 19:07:46 PDT)

They look like they might fit with some huffing and puffing.

For instance, some questions:
1. Does anyone know if the 210 lights have the glass part too big for the clk hood cut-outs ?
2. What other model's lights would NOT be too big for a W208 (year 2000 clk) ?
3. My impression is that all of these black $200 lights have a glass lense, but the rest is plastic. Is this true ?

Here's a sample of a pretty straight forward platic repair job that I did with fiberglass on a part that would otherwise have been trashed.:

After seing your work on the bumper, I have no doubt that you have the ability to get the job done.

I can tell you that the projector is made of Hard plastic i put one on my wife's car pre-facelift

The best possible way to remove the lens is by baking it or using a heat gun.
Yesterday i measure the width of the 00 E430 lights to mine and the width is about Half and inch wider, after that I didn't measure the height or the parking lights.

If your willing to put that much time into it, I suggest you just buy a used w208 headlight and grind the plastic lens and slap on a projector in there or buy a used Xenon lights, Cost a little bit more but then all you have to do is slap on a projector and your set.

Spend some time on hidplanet to get some idea.
Definately keep me update on progess crsh2@excite.com

Headlight mod: Clk members looking for help from E Class members.

It seems that the W210 E Class has a break in the model years regarding the replacement headlamps:

Does anyone know why that is ?
Are they bigger, smaller, different angles, what ?

Also, if you have a W210 from either of those two groups, could you please provide some of the following info., and let us know your model year.

1. Use a flexible tape and measure the lense diameter at the vertical height
2. and at the horizontal width as accuratley as possible.
3. Can you take close photos of the left lights directly from the front with the hood closed,
4. and directly from the front with the hood opened,
5. and a couple of shots of the cavity behind the lights.

Lastly, if anyone has a burned out or broken or damaged W210 light that I can use for this experimental mod, then I would gladly pay shipping for it if you would contribute it to the cause.

Thanks

PS. I have also posted this on the --W210 E50,E55 AMG-- forum, but for some reason this forum will not link with the W210 forum.
