Alright, I read that replacing the windshield washer sensor may fix my Display Defective issue.

But I wanted to know if I use a 1.5 W bulb in the lower portion of the instrument cluster where I have to use 1.3 W bulbs, can this cause any problems for the cluster?

I'm asking because I went to the dealership two times and all three times I was given the wrong one and decided just to use the one I have now which is the 1.5 W, it is installed and nothing seems to be wrong, but wanted to know if it can cause any further problems?

Does anyone know if the date/time and the temp LED's can be replaced without having to buy a new 925 dollar instrument cluster? Seems like the temp gauge would be a module attached to the back instrument cluster.

Of course shortly after the warranty expired the gauges started losing digits.

Thanks,

Bruce

Bruce,
I took apart my cluster to repair these displays myself and can say first hand that they are not separate modules but are very much integrated into the entire circuit board within the cluster. The contact point where the LCD display ribbon cable meets this circuit board is the week point and as it ages it doesn't make a good connection any longer. There are some places that will repair the cluster. Try searching the forums or ebay E-class cluster repair

cannot get my cluster to come out! using hangers i am afraid to pull real hard
Assuming you have inserted the hooks properly and have engaged the back of the cluster, focus on one side at a time. If it's never been out before it will indeed be REALLY hard to pop loose. Once you dislodge the one side, then go work on the other. Once you have both sides a bit out, then pull evenly on both sides to finish the job.

Good luck.

I actually pull mine out with my fingers. I put my fingers in the upper right and left parts of the cluster and pull. I was afraid of using tools because I might damage either the cluster or the dash. I have done it several times with no problems except sore fingers. There are no plastic clips to break, it just wedges into the dash with a tight fit.
