which OBDII to PC cable

Hi all,

I need help,

in my country mechanicers / auto electricians are not familiar with OBD kind tools, you can only scan your car at local dealer who asks 140 UK pounds for only scan (reset warning lights are not included this price).

as you understand I decide to buy hardware which will help to connect car to my laptop.

does any of you know which cable I should buy? and which software I have to use?

by the way my car manufactured for Japanese market, is there anything that I should calculate while buying cable? (such as pin number 16 or ???)
vehicle ecu protocol which will communicate with scan software???

anyway I am totally confused please help me, in brief
1- which cable?
2- from where (online shop website)
3- which software?

First up you need to find out which connector your 2002 SLK230 has installed....16pin usually in dash near steering wheel......38pin in engine bay

If you only have a 38pin connector this does limit your options....but the interface supplied by www.obdfactory.com does allow access to most of the other systems that generic OBD11 scanners are unable to do

If you are requesting a quote I would suggest

1) MB Carsoft 7.4

2) Multiplexer Selector (to access more than just engine codes....pic below)

You should be able to get both delivered for under $US200 (unless they hit you hard for delivery to Cyprus :eek: )

I got my cable from www.obd-2.com but it's for U.S. spec cars, don't know about Asian market cars. It's not as simple as connecting one connector to another with a simple cable, there's logic in the cable to do polling and protocol conversion, that's why they are not cheap. You may want to talk to Alex Pepper on that website and see if it will work with your car.

David, did you buy both the Carsoft interface and the multiplexer selector from obdfactory? I cannot find the multiplexer portrayed in the animated gif on their website...:confused:

Yep.......both from obdfactory

Cant access China sites from Australia at present........earthquake damage to telecommunications network

I eventually ordered my Multiplexer Selector through her when I had trouble getting replies from Ken
They seem to reply to short easy to understand emails requesting price......but may have trouble with understanding requests for further info :rolleyes:

Communications with China internet sites from Australia is still is very slow or doesn't work......probably the same for you
Today is the first day I have been able to navigate obdfactory.com since the earthquake

Guys, sorry to butt in here from the side...I am looking at buying the Carsoft 7.4 with multiplexer from an Ozzy based crowd called Motorscan, you guys seem to use oriental suppliers more.....any reason?

Rufus, in one word............price ;)

Not sure what you have been quoted.........but you should be able to get the Interface and standard cables for $US79 + delivery.....the equivalent on the Motorscan site is $A495 :eek:

The Multiplexer Box is $US198 + delivery from China

I have the Interface + Multiplexer Selector shown below......The Motorscan site is a bit unclear which they are supplying for $A695 :confused:

Ordering from China might be a bit difficult at present (earthquake), but if you're not in a hurry there are significant savings.....I paid by PayPal and my order arrived in 4 days

You should be able to get the Interface & Multiplexer Selector delivered for under $US200.......unless they hit you for delivery to RSA :(

Is the China CarSoft PC based?

If so,

What does the software look like on the PC?

Oh, well, the multiplexer connects automatically to all the systems in your car, because all the k-lines are wired and managed. The standard interface connects only to the engine controller by default, and you have to manually make different pin contacts in the mercedes plug to connect to other systems.
