On the 2009 SL550 we had the Transmission mode always remembered the last mode we had it in which was almost always SPORT Mode. But on this 2011 SL550 every time we turn off the ignition and turn it back on again the mode keeps defaulting back to COMFORT Mode...

How do we change the default or set it to remember the last mode used between restarts?

There's no way to change this - it always defaults to Comfort on restart. I just get in the habit of pressing the button to change it to "S" when I drive off.

Wonder why they changed it between 2009 and 2011?

I liked it a lot better the way the first SL550 we had (the 2009) always remembered the last mode it was in when you killed and restarted it so if it was in S or M mode when you killed the car it was still in it the next time you got in.

I wasn't aware that any version would keep the setting. I may poke around in SDS one day and see if there is a setting.

Let me know what you find, because the 2009 always remembered the last mode it was in. Never had to change it when I got in, was always in S mode except a few times I parked it in M mode and was in that also when it restarted. In fact remember getting in it one time when I'd had it in M mode and forgot about it, got back in the next morning and was wondering why it was revving up as I started down the street until I rememberd I'd had it in M the night before when I parked it so it was still in M mode the next morning and wasn't up-shifting so by the end of the block it was up to 4500 RPM when I noticed and realized what I'd done. Unless it was a malfunction on the part of the 2009 but didn't seem like it, seemed like it was just supposed to remember the last mode. I just assumed it was normal until we got the 2011 and it didn't remember.

My 2007 CLK550 also remembered it's setting, but while it was the 722.9 transmission, it was a different TCU version that lacked "M" mode. I just assumed the 2011 with the new software lost that ability.

Vediamo is a tool used with SDS that allows very low-level coding of modules. I think it's used by the engineering team for testing. I've never used it.

Depends. Vediamo has a somewhat steep learning curve and many people don't bother learning how to use it unless they're after a specific function.

So yes, it's shipped with the clone c4 kit, but 90% of the hobbyist don't even touch it. It's all Xentry/DAS. And I dont think there's any function in DAS that allows you to disable it.
