Are these screws supposed to be here? Having visible screws on the dash seems un-Mercedes-like. On the other side I have holes but no screws. Is this a PO botch job?

Thanks, Andy

LOL.

NOPE.

But....it is what it is.

Easiest way to go back to factory brackets is buy used speaker covers, and if you're careful you can probably make the holes invisible - a bit of heat, a drop of liquid leather, and red touch up paint. 👍

Getting those clips to fit into their slots can be a pain. Sometimes when larger speakers are installed, the clips will not fit at all and for either of these reasons, uncouth persons might use screws as a quick fix. I find using a credit card to direct the spring clips into their slots works well.

Good tip! I haven't removed them yet to see if the speakers are original or not. Andy
If someone screwed those covers in, I'd bet ya a cheeseburger and a beer they put in new speakers. Odds the factory ones didn't blow, crap out, separate etc at this point are like the odds of successfully navigating an asteroid field.

Yes, the credit card trick is a life saver and @andya - before you go messing with 3d printing clips remove one of the covers and check if you still have brackets in place, which is a sort of a horizontal bar to which the clips attach to.
