I just tried ordering the rear subframe bushings for my W126. I ordered them through mboemparts.com and I just got an email that they are NLA. The part number that I ordered was 126-350-34-08. This seems to match the parts diagrams that I have looked at.

Maybe there is a superseded part number that isn't showing up? If this is not the case and they are indeed NLA, I am very disappointed in MB for discontinuing these bushings.

Duncan those are Trailing Arm bushings for the rear subframe, not the big round units referenced here.

This is sad news. I had plans to buy that part soon. The only part available is the Meyle item. Meyle is a purveyor of bad MB parts.

I checked the classic center and its as close to Paragon as we can get. So this is true, if you need them, Meyle is it. However, being the age and the need for the part, there is a good chance that the Meyle are "actually" a German made part and not made of Crayola crayons.

Classic center said they would get back to me if they could find a part number just for the bushings.

I pulled the subframe to do the trailing arms, right now the bushings look okay. I was thinking that since they have 31 years on them, they could use a replacement. I guess i'll just reuse them. I looked at this thread about meyle rear bushings and I am not sure I want to go with them. I'm glad i'm doing the entire rear/front suspension now while I can still get most of the parts.

Keep us posted on the Classic Center's reply. The bushings are typically sold as a kit, with new bolts and hardware. I'd wager the old parts could be reused, or sourced elsewhere. I am tempted to see if the readily available 81-85 W126 subframe mounts would work. I would need to verify, but I believe the difference is the 86-91 bushings have segments missing to allow less vibration to be transmitted to the chassis, whereas the earlier items are solid.

Ill report back if anything comes of it.

The days of OEM parts availability for older cars are coming to an end.
Many dealers do not want to work on old cars and MB doesn't want to hassle with maintaining QUALITY stock. Manufacturing labor costs won't allow it. Who wants to pay 3x-5x the after-market price for parts that fit 25+ yr. old cars?

You're left with Meyle, Febi, etc. and soon a lot of that will be gone. For MB, it's all about $$$.

Maybe this will work:

Keep us updated! The classic center said check out ECSTuning...

I gave up and reinstalled the rear subframe. The bushings looked okay. I swapped out the trailing arm bushings. I found out the CV Joints and the CV joint boots are NLA

I think you do have a point. I think the cheap chinese parts from URO, Meyle, etc are driving lemforder and companies like it out of the market. I wish MB was more like Porsche...They seem to keep a nice stock of older parts.

At least the Sub-Frame Mount Kit for Gen I cars are still available - ordered a kit today for my 85 SEC directly from MB.

alydon,

If you could, when you have the old bushings replaced, could you get some measurements of the old bushings, and the subframe bore the bushings fit in? I will do some reconnaissance the next time I am at the junkyard and see if its possibly the 81-85 and 86-91 bushings can be interchanged. I don't have an 81-85 car in front of me to take the bushings out of.

Thanks
